Sports & Entertainment Partners (CSEP) announced
today the signing of fencer Mariel Zagunis. Zagunis
is currently ranked #1 in the world, and is the
reigning World Champion and 2008 & 2004 Olympic gold
medalist in women's sabre. "We are ecstatic to have Mariel, " said Patrick Quinn, one of the founding Partners of CSEP. "She's already won two gold medals and continues to be the best fencer in the world. She's beautiful, intelligent and articulate and would have to be considered a favorite to win again in London. She's the type of athlete we believe many brands would love to partner with and we're looking forward to being part of her journey back to the Olympics."
Zagunis (25), from Beaverton, OR, was not originally
slated to compete at the Olympics in 2004, but
capitalized on a late opportunity to participate,
won the gold medal, and has been a dominant force on
the global fencing scene ever since.
"I'm excited to be with CSEP," said Zagunis. "This was an important decision for me so I did my homework. CSEP definitely has a lot of experience in the Olympics and has represented many truly world class athletes. I feel confident that it's the right fit and a great compliment to the team of supporters I already have around me."
Zagunis is currently preparing for the 2010 World
Fencing Championships to be held in Paris, France,
Nov. 4-13, 2010.
